Merry Christmas Disney Trip, days one and two.

We had never driven to Florida before but we wanted to celebrate Christmas with Mickey and the gang so why not! We are also looking over areas near Disney for a future home so having our car would be an asset.

Our drive time according to Google maps is around 19 total hours depending on traffic so we planned to drive two thirds of the way on the first day, which was yesterday. And we achieved our goal. I am writing this from a motel room in Florence, SC this morning. We are getting ready for our final drive to Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and our estimated drive time is about six hours.

I-95 has been crowded with a lot of northern drivers but it is not as bad as I expected so we were able to stay on schedule. I had told Disney we would arrive around 3:00pm and we actually pulled into Coronado Springs Resort at 3:06 with 1,268 miles in the rear view mirror. We were impressed.

I had done the online check in and at about 2:30, I received a text stating our room was ready…. the room location on the map…. and room number so we went directly to our room. I reserved  a king size standard view room but we were magically upgraded to a water view in the Cabanas section.

We quickly got settled in and found out a 4:30 Christmas Eve mass was in a beautiful church in Celebration, not 6 miles from us so we got changed and followed my GPS to the church. It was over packed with people but we enjoyed it just the same.

After church it was time to activate our new annual passes so we went to Animal Kingdom, took care of that and then had fast passes for the nighttime Kilimanjaro Safaris. There were very few people in the park as we walked back to the Safari. In fact the standby wait time was only 10 minutes.

Our ride through the savanna was nice but we didn’t have a great experience with this, but I’m told it is hit or miss because of the animals activities.  We will try it again for sure.

The lioness was up and watching.

Our bed was calling and we planned to get up at 5:00am on Christmas morning so it was an easy decision to return to our room and get to sleep.

So far our trip has gone as planned and with beautiful weather forecasted we are excited to be in the sun!

Stay tuned for Days three and four.
