Our typical day at……… Disney Hollywood Studios.

Editors note……..This was the hardest post to write yet, but I think I enjoyed writing it more than the others. I might look back on it and want to change some things but all in all, I had fun writing it. I hope you like it as well as I do! So….. here we go!

Today’s FastPass+ selections are…. Toy Story Mania at around 10:00, Star Tours, the Adventure Continues at 11:30 and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Starring Areosmith at 7:00 PM.

I must tell you one of the best secrets to enjoying DHS for us is to visit DHS when there are two showings of Fantasmic. Plan on being at the first one! I’ll explain a little later.

With all the changes that Disney’s Hollywood Studio is going through either rumored or announced, there is less to do in this park every day. But I’ll try my best to show you how my wife and I do DHS with all the confirmed changes in mind.

As I’ve said before, we are not very good at getting to the parks very early while on vacation. We enjoy waking up, when we wake up and eating breakfast in our room. We enjoy a bowl of cheerios and a banana and some coffee while sitting on our balcony or patio. But when we go to DHS, we indulge in a Blueberry Muffin and coffee from a hidden gem called the Writers Stop.

The Writers Stop is hard to find but worth every penny. They have blueberry muffins just like they used to have at the Main Street Bakery at MK before they ruined it by putting in Starbucks with a different bakery selection. That’s progress for you.

We usually try to time our Fast Passes to start at Toy Story Mania at around 10:00. Before Disney announced FastPass+, we only experienced Toy Story Mania twice. I refused to stand in line for more than twenty minutes and I refused to do the Toy Story Mania sprint at the park opening. If you’ve ever done that yourself you are crazy. I actually did it one time to get fast passes for my daughter in law and granddaughter but never for ourselves.

After our game with Woody and the gang we ride Star Tours at someplace arond 11:30. We love the fact that you can ride this ten times and not see the same thing ten times. A tip of the hat to Disney for that one. Be sure to pay attention to everything in the queue area as it sets up the whole story line of the ride for you.

While we are in the area, we love to see the Muppets. Yes it is outdated but we still love Kermit and the gang. If anyone from Disney actually reads this…… how about bringing the Muppets back after the park is redesigned and make several different 3D movies with them and rotate them like you do with Star Tours!

This usually brings us to a late lunch. We have made a rare reservation at Mama Melrose’s at around 2:30 for the Fantasmic Package.

We really enjoy this under rated restaurant. I think they have one of the best steak dinners on property. We originally went there to have the Chicken Parmigianino but I saw the waitress walk by with the steak and changed my mind.

We ALWAYS start out with Mama’s Margarita as we wait to order our late lunch. We even have the recipe, thanks to a kind Cast Member, for these and make them at home on occasion.

I always order the Charred Strip Steak, medium rare, with Five-Cheese Macaroni with Pancetta, Aged Balsamic-Shallot Butter, and a Chianti Wine Reduction for $32.99.

Patti usually orders Shrimp Campanelle…….. Wood-grilled Shrimp and Campanelle Pasta tossed in a Four-Cheese Sauce with Broccoflower, Sun-dried Tomatoes, fresh Spinach, and Sweet Onions for $21.99.

After lunch, we enjoy seeing the Green Army Men and other Pixar characters as we walk through Pixar Place. Be sure to stop in and visit the Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow.

DVC 062

We next head over to One Man’s Dream and enjoy the story of Walt Disney and how his dream became a reality. It is amazing to me what Walt has accomplished during his life and how he has positively affected the lives of so many people.

It’s time for us to visit the Voyage of the Little Mermaid for a nice cooling and relaxing show. This is a great show for the whole family.

We turn our attention to the Magic of Disney Animation and we really enjoy taking the class where an animator teaches you how to draw cartoon characters. We’ve done this several times and have the souvenirs to prove it.

It’s time for our ride with The Great Movie Ride. We love riding through the scenes of some of the most famous films of all time. All of the films featured are classics that all adults will remember.

It’s time to visit our old friends Aerosmith at the recording studio as they work on a new record and then Steven Tyler invites everyone to their concert across town. He even provides a limo for everyone. Hop in….. buckle up and hold on as the crazy driver twists and turns through all kinds of traffic to make sure you get to the concert on time! Of course the radio is cranked up with Steven Tyler and Areosmith playing in your ear.

By now the line is forming for the first showing of Fantasmic. We have one more stop before we enter. To your right is an ice-cream stand called Hollywood Scoops. It’s worth the stop for a hot fudge Sundae.

As we walk into the line and up the path to the amphitheater, we show our Fantasmic Package Tickets and are directed to the center section of the amphitheater. Don’t sit down front…… you will get wet! We like to sit about four or five rows from the top for the best view for the whole show.

This show is our favorite night time show at Walt Disney World as it combines cartoons, fireworks, lasers, fire, water, and live actors that the whole family will enjoy! We’ve seen it countless times and enjoy it as much today as we did during our first time.

After the show is over, the crowd is fighting its way out. If you sit in the area I suggested, you have a better chance of being ahead of the madness. With the first show completed, the people waiting to see the second show are in line and the park is open for you to enjoy some chances at walking on some of the favorite rides and attractions.

What we do is exit the park and return to our resort for some adult beverages on our balcony or patio. Time to unwind and relax. If you have to catch a bus back to your resort, now is the best time to do it because about 5,000 people are in the second show. If you wait until park closing you may wait in your bus line for a really, really long time. It has happened to us …..once.

I’ve missed some of the shows with this blog. We didn’t see Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular or Lights, Motor Action Extreme Stunt Show but they are all worth seeing.

With all the changes coming to this park, most of this information will be outdated. So planning for your time at Disney’s Hollywood Studio is going to be trickier. Keep an eye out on this blog for updates and more planning help.

I always end my blog with the following……. it still holds true……… contact me if you’d like my help planning your next vacation. I never charge any planning fees. And you won’t pay me any money….. Disney pays me! Now you know why I smile so much!

Questions or comments are welcome. I’ll do my best to help.
